In this Women’s Only, Ladies’ Exclusive welding class at Maketory you’ll get an intimate group welding lesson, no Fellas in class! Interested in Welding but had some hesitations? No problem, this class is designed for the beginners! We will learn how to use a basic Metal Inert Gas (MIG) or Wire Feed welder to produce even, controlled beads as we work with solid wire and shielding gas. The class will cover: clothing to buy, what kind of hood you’ll need for the job, tooling to look into, what the world of welding entails as a lady and so much more! Jodi has run Women Only Classes once a month for the last few years, specializing in welding, but knowledge of many other tradeskills as well, as she has been in the trades since she was a kid. She knows that ladies are totally capable but usually require being spoken to in a different manner than the male populous. When wanting to embark into a male dominated field, it is important to build your confidence and skills set as well as a community of other hard working trades women. Please Note: Mandatory Safety Equipment: Safety Glasses (Maketory has pairs available at the facility if you do not own any). Closed-toed shoes, full length pants and short sleeves. We require at least 2 participants to run the course. In the event we do not reach 2 participants we will reach out to reschedule or issue a refund, whichever you prefer. Tickets are nonrefundable (unless class is cancelled) and can not be used for another date.Maketory is a membership based facility. This course also serves as a certification to run the machinery independently at our facility as a member (valid for 60 days after class is taken). She grew up with dirty hands, a love for hard work and functional design. Jodi is an all around handy gal who has her hands in residential and commercial construction, auto mechanics and now fabrication. She just relocated to sunny San Diego in the summer of 2021. After working off and on in construction and wedding cake decorating for the last 8 years, she finally went to school for a Welding and Fabrication Degree in Washington. In Seattle she instructed at the infamous Hazard Factory; a makers’ space akin to Maketory, but much smaller. At the Hazard Factory she ignited her passion teaching MIG, Stick, oxy-fuel and TIG welding for two years. Jodi is very excited to enhance the metal shop here at Maketory with her unique experience.
