Nourish Series: Book Event featuring Author Lora DeVore and MPR's Call to Mind Founder Babette Apland The Lynhall is thrilled to host a discussion and book signing event in honor of the launch of "Darkness Was My Candle" a book of perseverance and healing by Author Lora DeVore and moderated by MPR's Call to Mind Founder Babette Apland. Join us for our first Nourish Series event in over 2 years! Ticket includes a glass of celebratory N/A beverage and a copy of "Darkness Was My Candle". Cash bar will be available. ABOUT LORA DEVORE-MATZ, MS., LICSW Lora integrates over forty years of experience as a psychotherapist and educator with adults and children. She specialized, much of her life, with individuals and community wide trauma as well as end of life care. She is considered a national leader in the field of Integrative Medicine and has been the director of a number of innovative programs. Lora has an advanced education and interest in spiritual psychotherapy, transpersonal development and Jungian theory and practice. Her work integrates the wisdom of traditions, scientific knowledge and her own personal experiences. Lora is a sought after speaker on a local and national level. Lora recently completed her first book "Darkness Was My Candle: An Odyseey of Survival and Grace" and has a passion for transforming the current state and practice of mental health and the treatment of trauma and is committed to helping systems and individuals from all walks of life. ABOUT BABETTE APLAND Former Healthcare Executive Consultant and Founder, Call to Mind, American Public Media Babette Apland has over 25 years of experience leading strategy and launching and growing new services, products and initiatives to improve health and wellbeing for individuals and society. Presently, Babette is working as a consultant in health care, media, and gender and racial equity. She is the founder of American Public Media’s Call to Mind, a national media initiative to measurably raise the American public’s understanding of mental health and create a platform for change through on-air programming, podcasts and digital content, civic engagement and live events. Early in her career Babette partnered with ophthalmologists to create the Phillips Eye Institute, a freestanding inpatient and outpatient eye care center in Minneapolis. After serving as Executive Director of the Phillips Eye Institute for seven years, Babette joined HealthPartners, an integrated health plan and health care delivery system serving 1.8 million members and 1 million patients with over 1,800 physicians. During her 20 years at HealthPartners, as Senior Vice President of Health Management, Babette spearheaded the development of nationally recognized health and well-being programs, care management programs, and global payment systems. As Vice President of Behavioral Health and Chief Operating Officer of the Melrose Center for Eating Disorders, she led major growth and innovation in mental health services. Babette received her BS from the University of Cincinnati, MS from Purdue University and MBA from the University of Minnesota. She serves on the Board of Directors for Hennepin Health Care and for Women Winning . Babette lives in Minneapolis with her husband and two dogs.
