Description
SUDBURY, MA — A sinkhole opened along Goodman's Hill Road in Sudbury on Tuesday, nearly eating a town police cruiser, according to the police department.
The town closed the road after the police cruiser almost fell into the hole. The Department of Public Works did not immediately say how large the hole was. Repairs were underway on Tuesday evening.
"The Department of Public Works hopes to get the repairs done as soon as possible but there is substantial damage underground that needs to be repaired," the town said in a Facebook post around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Residents who live south of Walker Farm Road can access their homes from the Boston Post Road. Anyone north of that will have to drive around and enter from Concord Road, according to the public works department.
The sinkhole comes amid a major traffic detour in Wayland. A Route 27 bridge over the Sudbury River is closed for repairs, and Goodman's Hill Road somewhat parallels that roadway.
