Worker At Sudbury School Tests Positive For Coronavirus

SUDBURY, MA — A child care employee working at a Sudbury school tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday, but the district is not canceling school on Wednesday. The employee began feeling sick on Monday while working at the Sudbury Extended Day program at Josiah Haynes Elementary School; they tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday. No students were exposed, according to district officials, but two other extended day employees were exposed and were placed in isolation. The SED program cares for students before and after school, but is independent of the school district. About 18 students use the program at Haynes. The school has been sanitized since the positive coronavirus test. "This is an unfortunate situation, and we wish this employee well as they recover," Superintendent Brad Crozier said in a news release. "We had an otherwise strong return to in-person learning today, and we're confident that we are taking all the proper and necessary steps, as outlined in our reopening plan, to keep students and staff safe while remaining engaged in school." The Sudbury School District opened the 2020-21 school year on Tuesday under a hybrid model. Lincoln-Subdury High School, which is a separate school district, is beginning the school year fully remote on Wednesday due to a large student party over the weekend. Lincoln-Sudbury should enter a hybrid model on Sept. 25.
