Sudbury Parents, Teen Charged Over Party That Delayed School

SUDBURY, MA — A Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School student and their parents have been charged by Sudbury police in connection with a Sept. 11 party that forced school to be delayed, Sudbury Chief Scott Nix confirmed on Monday. The party featured alcohol and nearly 30 local students, according to Superintendent Bella Wong. The party demonstrated a "complete lack of safety precautions to protect against the spread of COVID," she said. Nix said that he was filing charges against the student and their parents under the Massachusetts social host law. The law holds parents accountable for underage drinking parties. Lincoln-Sudbury is holding remote classes for the first two weeks of the school year, which began Sept. 16. Teenage parties in several communities — including Reading and Dover-Sherborn — have forced schools to delay the start of in-person learning due to the risk of exposure to the coronavirus.
