SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury voters set new records in 2020 compared to other recent presidential elections, including the highest turnout dating back to 2004, according to ballot data. A total of 87.12 percent of Sudbury's 13,917 registered voters cast a ballot in the 2020 presidential election, beating the previous record set in the 2012 election between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. Also in 2020, the share of votes for a Democratic presidential candidate was the highest since 2004 — and the lowest for a Republican candidate. Between 2016 and 2020, the GOP share of votes for president shrunk from 22.94 percent to about 21.5 percent, according to turnout data. On the other side, 74.85 percent of votes went to Biden — the first time a Democrat has earned more than 70 percent of the vote dating back to 2004. The Democratic trough was seen in 2012, when only 57.43 percent of the vote went to Obama.
