Here are the top three stories today in Buffalo: The Niagara Falls Illumination Board has approved a request by the University of Buffalo's School of Nursing. Niagara Falls will be illuminated blue and white to honor the region's nurses and nurses around the country on May 12. The lights will be changed from 10:30 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. (Press Release Desk)During the State of the City address, Buffalo's Mayor Brown proposed a 4.53 percent tax increase. The new tax would reportedly generate over $6.6 million for the city. The money would be used for an updated 311 call system and an updated snow-fighting fleet. This would be the second tax increase during the mayor's 16 years in office. (WGRZ.com)The 9th Annual Cherry Blossom Festival will be from Apr. 30 through May 1 at the Buffalo History Museum. Participants will be able to celebrate in the Japanese Garden, learn about Japanese activities, and grab something to eat from the various food trucks.
