Press release from the City of Reno: April 27, 2022 In our ongoing commitment to keep citizens and media informed, we've summarized the outcomes of a few key agenda items from today's Regular Meeting of the Reno City Council. Staff Reports with more information are linked to below: B.14 - Affordable Housing Project Council adopted a Resolution supporting the construction of a new affordable housing project, identified as Copper Mesa, located on Red Rock and Silver Lake Roads. Copper Mesa Apartments is a 290-unit family rental development, located in the North Valleys area of Reno. Copper Mesa Apartments will be affordable to households with incomes at or below 60 percent of area median income (AMI). Four units will be set aside for households at or below 50 percent of AMI. The residence will serve a growing need in the Truckee Meadows for affordable and workforce family housing. The proximity to nearby industrial employment opportunities, as well as the site's location to major vehicular arteries, will give the future residents the ability to live in a quality home in the same neighborhood in which they are employed – contributing to a healthy lifestyle and community. B.15 - Bee City USA Council adopted a Resolution to initiate the process of designating the City of Reno as a Bee City USA affiliate within the Xerces Society Bee City USA and Bee Campus USA network of organizations. Staff have partnered with representatives from local non-profit organizations to assemble a committee and accomplish the steps necessary to have the City of Reno officially designated as a Bee City USA affiliate. D.3 - OneWater Nevada There was a presentation on the OneWater Nevada Advanced Purified Water Facility (APWF) at American Flat Project, to include a project status update and next steps. Council directed staff to proceed with the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) project delivery method, which will be administered by the Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA). Yesterday, the City and partners announced that the Advanced Purified Water Demonstration Project has been named the 2021 project of the year by the Truckee Meadows American Society of Civil Engineers. The project in front of Council today is the full field scale version that was authorized due to the success of the award-winning demonstration project. B.5 - Agenda and Meeting Management Software Council approved a three-year agreement for maintenance and support services with PrimeGov, Inc., for the City of Reno's Agenda and Meeting management software which includes closed captioning functionality, as well as a Boards and Commissions software package, in an amount not to exceed $250,000 for three years. B.11 - Neighborhood Sewer and Street Rehabilitation Project Council approved a Consultant Agreement with Farr West Engineering for design services for the 2023 Talus Neighborhood Sewer and Street Rehabilitation Project in an amount not to exceed $698,078 from the Sewer and Street Fund. The project will rehabilitate and/or replace approximately 2,600 feet of sanitary sewer and 396,000 square feet of neighborhood streets. The rehabilitation area will include the following streets: Talus Way, Shale Court, Buckhorn Way, Tarn Way, Lookout Place, Lodestar Lane, Gypsum Road, Mica Place, and Moraine Way. The design will be complete by January 2023 for spring 2023 construction. B.13 - Public Safety Center Council adopted a Resolution authorizing the Finance Director to execute purchase orders and required contracts or Joinder contracts for the purchase of materials, equipment and independent services for the Public Safety Center Remodel Project. The purchase items include materials, equipment and independent services for IT network, audio/visual, access control, security, paging systems, radio antennas and repeaters, evidence racking, furniture, building automations and miscellaneous items required for the completion of the project. C.1 - Issuance of Bonds (to finance major projects) There was a Public Hearing on the City's proposed general obligation bonds to be issued in order to finance: a portion of the design, acquisition, construction, improving, and equipping of a Public Safety Center;a portion of the costs of the design, acquisition, construction, improving, and equipping of a Community Aquatics & Fitness Center at Moana Springs;and preliminary work to design a Fire Department Headquarters. This Public Hearing is a statutorily required step in the issuance of the bonds. D.4 - Strategic Plan There was a presentation on the mid-plan review of the 2020 to 2025 Strategic Plan including status updates and prioritization of strategies for the remainder of the plan.
