3 Members Of Stoughton School Community Asked To Self-Quarantine

STOUGHTON, MA — Three members of the Stoughton Public Schools community were asked to self-quarantine after school officials said they came in close contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus. Superintendent John Marcus said the person who tested positive lives outside Stoughton and isn't connected to the school district. He also said none of the three people in quarantine tested positive for the virus, but school officials are following protocols to ensure student and staff safety. "These situations will likely happen throughout the year and, though we can't provide specific information about the individual or close contacts, we will continue to work closely with the Stoughton Public Health administrator to conduct contact tracing," Marcus said in a statement. "This helps identify those who may have been exposed to a positive case. In cases like these, health personnel will reach out to any person (or parents/guardians) who may be considered a 'close contact' of a positive case, and will be notified privately." Marcus said all close contacts must self-quarantine for 14 days. Close contacts should be tested to determine if they are infectious and if additional people need to be in quarantine. Close contacts must remain in quarantine regardless of test results. School officials said parents with students tested for the coronavirus are required to report the results to the school nurse immediately. "Safety remains our top priority, and we will continue to be proactive and responsive to any issues that arise," Marcus said.
