Firefighters Extinguish 3-Alarm Fire At Stoughton Home

STOUGHTON, MA — A two-story Stoughton home caught fire and sustained significant damage Thursday afternoon. Fire Chief Michael Laracy said the three-alarm fire started on the front porch of the School Street home and spread all the way to the basement. "We could see smoke from a mile out," Laracy told Patch. "The whole front of the house was fully engulfed in flames. When firefighters arrived, they were told someone was possibly still inside the house. Laracy said crews went inside but didn't find anyone. Later, the residents, three adults and a child, were confirmed to have gotten out safely. No injuries were reported. Laracy said mutual aid from Avon, Canton, Easton, Sharon, Randolph, Holbrook, Brockton and Norwood helped Stoughton firefighters extinguish the flames within 20 minutes. "The crews did an exceptional job searching for residents under extreme heat conditions," Laracy said. Laracy said the home was likely not a total loss, but each floor suffered considerable smoke and fire damage. Laracy said fire officials are still investigating the exact cause of the fire.
