Man Leads Police Chase, Tries Running Over Officers: Stoughton PD

STOUGHTON, MA — A Stoughton man was arrested Saturday after police said he tried striking two officers with his car while leading police on a high-speed chase. Sean Curran was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon to wit a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and a variety of other motor vehicle and drug related charges. Around 11 a.m., Friday, police were called to a home on Nickerson Drive to find Curran, who police said had two outstanding warrants. When officers arrived, Curran backed out of the driveway at a high rate of speed, police said. An officer on foot ordered him to stop, and police said Curran nearly struck him. Police said Curran sped towards another officer on foot. The officer, fearing for his safety, stepped out of the way just before he could be struck. No officers were injured during the pursuit, and all were able to return to work the next day. Police said Curran led officers on a pursuit down Turnpike Street, then onto Route 139 and Route 24. He then got off the highway at Harrison Boulevard and made another loop down Turnpike Street, police said. As he approached route 139, police ended the pursuit. Two hours later, police said they found Curran's vehicle near Cabot Place. Officers used K-9 units to try and find him but failed to do so. But police said they learned valuable information during the search. That information led police to Country Inn & Suites in Brockton, where they arrested Curran at 9:30 a.m., Saturday. Curran was held without bail and is expected to be arraigned Monday in Stoughton District Court.
