Description
Coywolf Johnson is looking for another band member to replace our fiddle player who is moving on. We play blues, spirituals and protest songs; about half originals and half classics. We are looking for a band member who will rehearse to develop our sound. We currently rehearse on Sunday mornings. There is a strong leftist slant to the lyrics in the protest songs and there's quite a few Old Testament spirituals as well. We have about 75 minutes of material currently and need to double that to play a wider range of shows.
We have a unusual sound. It's gritty, dark, sparse. We're a comfortable playing really slow tempos with a lot of space in the texture. I am doing the vocals and electric bass guitar, played both with traditional finger style and strumming. We have blues harp and paired down drums with a 50's/60's blues sound. We can play quiet. We need an instrument that can play sustained notes to harmonize with the harmonica and more percussive double-stops or chords to support the singing. A fiddle could work and slide guitar, lapsteel or pedal steel could work too. We want someone pretty gritty sounding that is comfortable leaving space in the music.
We have a couple live videos up on YouTube that you can check out.
We are in our 40's-50's, two women and a man. Personality compatibility is most important to us. Then musical compatibility, then chops. We'd like to hear a recording of your playing and talk on the phone or Zoom before meeting up in person.
