Description

Welcome the May: Choral Service, Rooftop Madrigals, Outdoor Lunch The month of May sees the onset of good weather and the beginnings of outdoor events. On the First Day of May there is a tradition of singing from the tops or towers or rooftops. Often this includes English madrigals (short secular choral pieces of the Renaissance period) and this will be the case on Sunday 1 May this year when singers will perform madrigals form the roof on St John's music office overlooking St Benedict's Courtyard. 11am Choral Service features music by Joseph Haydn - his beloved 'Little Organ Mass', sung by St John's professional choir. Refreshments are then served in St Benedict's Courtyard while the singers sing from the rooftop. The madrigals are performed by Greenwich Village Chamber Singers and by St John's professional choir. An al fresco buffet lunch is served after the madrigals. You must be fully vaccinated to attend. Face-coverings should be worn indoors but are optional outdoors. Free, but registration for catering purposes is very helpful.
