SkillSet is an outreach program of UNC Asheville’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) Studio that provides access to life-changing skills through maker-based education. We teach everything from custom electric guitars to robotics and furniture, and all the tools, technical skills, and resilience that goes into making these objects. We primarily serve under-resourced communities, female-identified and gender expansive students in order to ensure visibility of diverse identities in STEAM fields and inspire students to consider new interests and career paths.
SkillSet offers after-school workshops, summer camps, classes for adult learners, and community outreach programming.
By teaching participants the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math embedded in the objects they create, SkillSet equips the next generation of leaders and problem solvers with the tools to make change and build the future.
