ORANGE COUNTY, FL — Two Florida teens were shot after a man said he caught them trying to break into his car, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.
According to the sheriff's office, around 2 a.m. Thursday, deputies responded to the 2,000 block of Martinwood Drive in reference to shots fired.
When they arrived, deputies said they met with a man who said he confronted two teens who were burglarizing his car.
"The victim of the burglary said the suspects made threatening movements toward him, and he fired several shots," the sheriff's office told Patch in an email.
Deputies said the two teens, ages 13 and 16, were taken to the hospital. The younger teen received a wound on his hand the other one has a non-life-threatening gunshot wound on his body.
"We can confirm that the victim told investigators a vehicle belonging to him was broken into several weeks ago. It was not reported to OCSO at the time," the sheriff's office said.
Deputies said one of the suspects in Thursday's burglary had evidence from that incident when he was shot.
They also confirmed a stolen gun was found near one of the injured teenagers.
"Ultimately, investigators will determine what charges are appropriate, but that hasn't happened yet," the sheriff's office told Patch.
