Description

Leaders unite to discuss the impact of childhood adversities, the power of relationships, and to plan for a healing resilient Pontiac. Pontiac has faced a surge in violence and crime post COVID-19 pandemic. We mourn the drive-by shooting of a 7-year old girl by a 19-year old youth on March 18th. What can we do and what SHOULD we do to prevent similar tragedies? The Pontiac United Education Coalition (PUEC) and the Pontiac READS! Health and Wellness Collaborative have joined forces with the OUPIECE Pontiac Resilience Project, Oakland University Center for Civic Engagement, and CNS Healthcare to organize a timely and urgent screening and discussion of the award-winning documentary, "Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope,." The documentary chronicles a new movement among pediatricians, therapists, educators and communities using cutting-edge brain science to disrupt cycles of violence, addiction and disease. Below, our community members reflect on the "Resilience" documentary, and how we can, together, build a resilient Pontiac. Can we count on you to be there to continue this important conversation? Light dinner will be served.
