What's Up Prince William April 28, 2022 Brentsville is celebrating its 200th anniversary by installing a "LOVE" sign in front of the Brentsville Courthouse. The sign matches the slogan "Virginia is for lovers," and there are many similar signs across the Commonwealth, according to a release from the Prince William County Parks, Recreation & Tourism. The eye-catching signs draw attention to important sites throughout Virginia, especially those rich in history. Historic Site Manager of the Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre & Lucasville School Paige Gibbons-Backus said in a release that the signs, "are a great way to showcase a site's theme, whether it be history, nature, food or drink, and it provides a fun photo-op." The Prince William Office of Historic Preservation has been planning to add a LOVE sign to a site in the area, and it feels that Brentsville is the best choice. The sign will be displayed for the remainder of 2022. The sign is made with PVC and metal, and a decal at the bottom that represents the brickwork of the historic structures in Brentsville. The Commonwealth's logos and the hashtag #VirginiaisforHistoryLovers is on the decal to draw social media attention to the town's bicentennial year. The Office of Historic Preservation was given permission by the Virginia Tourism Corporation to use the hashtag and logos. The Tourism Department helped advertise Brentsville's LOVE sign.
