Description

Press release from Grafton Public Library: April 28, 2022 Those warm sunny days are perfect for working in the garden. Thanks to a generous donation from Prairie Moon Nursery (MN) and Russell's Garden Center (Wayland, MA), as well as anonymous donors, we are pleased to launch our Seed Library, just in time for the 2022 growing season! Here's how it works: Pick up your free seed packets at Grafton Public Library.Take them home and grow them in your garden.Harvest seeds from produce and thoroughly air dry them.Place them in the envelopes provided, label and return to the Library so others can grow them next year. (optional) This new program to provide free seeds to the community will help us meet goals to encourage the use of native, heirloom, open-pollinated and organic seeds; encourage gardeners to save seed and donate seed back to the Seed Library from successful varieties of plants they have grown; educate our community on topics related to gardening, ecology, food and nutrition, health and wellness and the environment; promote the importance of organic gardening for our health and the health of our planet, and increase awareness of and mitigate food scarcity in our community. We will also take in orphan seeds from local gardeners who have extras and make those available to gardeners who need extra. We are happy to help gardeners with their research to choose seeds and give you the information to get growing. In addition to seeds, the Library has a bulb planter and gardening set available for checkout from the Library of Things, as well as our collection of books on gardening and starting and saving seeds. We can't wait to see what you grow! For more information, please visit our Seed Library page! This press release was produced by Grafton Public Library.
