Description

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Starting this Monday, May 2 masks will no longer be required in the New Brunswick school district. They will be optional starting on that date. New Brunswick was one of a handful of school districts that still required students and teachers to wear masks, even while Gov. Murphy lifted his mask mandate in early March. It was mostly large, urban school districts that kept the mask mandate in place: Including New Brunswick, Newark, Paterson, Trenton, East Orange, Plainfield and South Orange-Maplewood all still required their students and teachers to wear masks indoors after the state's K-12 mask mandate was lifted. New Brunswick students still have to wear masks in the cafeteria, auditorium and on school buses, "where social distancing cannot be maintained," said superintendent Aubrey Johnson.
