UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Spring on the Upper East Side means one thing: celebrities will soon be marching up the steps to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, clad in eye-catching dresses and surrounded by swarms of photographers. The 2022 Met Gala is happening on Monday, hosted, as always, by the Met's Costume Institute and serving as a fundraiser for the museum. Here's what to know. What's this year's theme? The theme this year is "In America: An Anthology of Fashion," coinciding with the museum's upcoming fashion art exhibition of the same name. (Last year's event was linked with the first installment of the exhibition, titled "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.") The all-important theme, meanwhile, is "gilded glamour, white-tie," which observers expect will "give guests the chance to indulge their most decadent aspirations" while hewing to the late-19th-century vibe, according to CNN. How can I watch?Vogue magazine — whose owner, Condé Nast, sponsors the Met Gala — will be livestreaming on its website and on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter starting 6 p.m. Eastern on Monday. And venerable red-carpet network E! will also go live from the museum steps at 6 p.m. Monday, with commentary from "Queer Eye" host Karamo, style correspondent Zanna Roberts Rassi, fashion expert Phillip Picardi, red carpet correspondent Naz Perez and pop culture panelist Camille Kostek. Who will be attending? This year's co-hosts will be Lin-Manuel Miranda, Regina King, and megastar couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. Other rumored guests, according to The Cut, include Katy Perry, Megan Thee Stallion, and Sydney Sweeney, plus likely appearances from directors Chloe Zhao, Sofia Coppola and Janicza Bravo, who all directed vignettes for the upcoming fashion exhibition.
