HUNTINGTON, NY — Two Huntington beaches are closed to swimming. High levels of bacteria were found in the waters of both Knollwood Beach and Fleets Cove Beach, the Suffolk County Commissioner's office announced Tuesday. They will stay closed until repeat testing shows acceptable levels of bacteria. According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gregson Pigott, "bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat." Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai, Venetian Shores Beach in Lindenhurst, and Benjamin Beach in Bay Shore all remain closed. Residents can check for updates on closed beaches by calling the Suffolk County hotline at 631-852-5822.
