Description
Press release from the City of Somerville: December 3, 2020 The City of Somerville is seeking community members interested in taking action on the climate crisis to apply for the 2021 Climate Forward Ambassador Program. The program will begin January 2021, and meetings will be held virtually over Zoom. The Somerville Climate Forward Ambassador Program is designed to empower Somerville residents to act on climate change in their community. Ambassadors learn about climate change at the global and local scale, engage with neighbors from across Somerville, and inspire, motivate, and encourage other residents to take action. The program was launched in 2019 by the City's Office of Sustainability and Environment as part of Somerville Climate Forward, the City's climate action plan. 2021 Ambassadors will participate in a series of 10 virtual meetings that include public presentations from City staff and guest speakers on climate science and policy and Ambassador meetings to deepen knowledge and collaborate with the Ambassador cohort. Drawing on information shared in the presentations and meetings, Ambassadors will work independently or in small groups to develop a project to educate and engage Somerville community members on a topic related to climate change. The program will culminate with a presentation of the projects. To become a Climate Forward Ambassador, apply online at www.somervillema.gov/cfa. The deadline to apply is December 11, 2020. Any resident of Somerville who is high school age and older is welcome to apply. No prior knowledge about climate change is required. For more details on the program, visit www.somervillema.gov/cfa or contact Hannah Payne, Climate Change Program Manager, at [email protected].
