Utility Tech #22-0036 DENVER, CO DIVISION Operations and Maintenance POSITION TYPE Full-time REGULAR/ TEMPORARY Regular Posting Close Date May 20, 2022 Pay Range Starting pay rate is $20.25 Salary/Hourly Hourly Location of Position Water Distrib - Ops Complex-BLDJ Job Description Position Summary Under direct supervision, perform a variety of laboring and unskilled to semi-skilled duties related to the operation and maintenance of the transmission & distribution system. Clean tools, truck, and worksite while on a job. This is an entry level position with opportunities for growth within Denver Water. Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not have formal supervisory responsibilities over other employees. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Perform semi-skilled and diverse duties including digging, lifting, backfilling, mixing and finishing concrete, rock drilling and blasting, laying and connecting pipe, road repair, tree cutting, and snow removal. • Operate, maintain, and lubricate a variety of equipment including pavement breakers, tampers, tractor mowers, loaders, jackhammer, rock drilling and blasting equipment. Operate equipment such as utility trucks, dump trucks, and other equipment. • Ensure the unrestricted flow of water in canals and ditches. Implement water flow policy in a manner that constitutes satisfactory public relations. • Assist employees of higher crafts or skills and keeps tools, equipment, and work area in a clean orderly condition. • Use a variety of tools and resources including electronic pipe locator, measuring wheel, maps and GIS system to locate water mains, conduits, and service lines. • Use 200 foot maps in locating water mains and valve boxes, conducting inspections, raising valve boxes to street level, and provide location assistance to city paving crews, utility departments, and private contractors. • Inspect and observe departmental facilities for missing valve box lids, manhole covers, sunken ditches, water main breaks, or hydrants that have been damaged by vehicles, or other objects. • Interact with internal and external customers, contractors, and the general public. • Perform landscape maintenance including mowing, tree trimming, and weed and pest control. • May be required to perform on call duty, work shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime as directed, and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. • Must be able to perform safety sensitive functions – This applies to Water Treatment, Water Control and Electric Shop sections only. • Perform related work as required. Position Requirements Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience • High School Diploma or GED. • Minimum 1 year of related work experience. • Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities for the position. Licenses, Registration, and Certifications • Must be able to possess and maintain a valid Class ‘R’ Colorado driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record. • The employee will be required to operate vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating of 10,001-26,000 pounds – this applies to Grounds and Electric Shops only. • Must possess a valid Class ‘B’ Colorado Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of appointment – this applies to T&D and Source of Supply sections only.
