Long Islanders cast ballots for both state and federal elections, including Congress, New York Assembly and state Senate. All 150 seats in the New York Assembly were up for election in 2020. In Suffolk County, Democrat incumbents hold four seats, Republicans hold three, the Independence Party holds one, and four will have a vacancy filled by the election winner. Of those four, all are or were previously held by Republicans. Find the results of all local races on our Long Island Election Hub. Suffolk Assembly Races to Watch The four races where a current incumbent will not hold onto the seat are in assembly districts 2, 7, 9 and 12. In New York Assembly District 2, Republican Jodi Giglio, Democrat Laura Jens-Smith and Libertarian William Van Helmond will be vying for Republican Anthony Palumbo's seat. In the seventh district, Republican Jarett Gandolfo and Democrat Francis T. Genco are going head-to-head for the seat being vacated by Republican Andrew Garbarino, who is a candidate for the United States House of Representatives.
