5 Ways Huntington Residents Can Give Back This Holiday Season

HUNTINGTON, NY — The holidays are around the corner. After a particularly rough year due to the coronavirus, many families and children are struggling. Here are some options in Huntington Village and nearby for residents to help those in need: The Town of Huntington is holding its annual U.S. Marines Toys for Tots donation box at Town Hall, located at 100 Main St. Donations are scheduled to be picked up Friday morning.A second U.S. Marines Toys for Tots box will be at Macy's at Walt Whitman Shops, set up by Town of Huntington Veterans Affairs Coordinator Carol Rocco. Donations for that box are slated to be picked up the morning of Dec. 16.The Greenlawn Civic Association is hosting a food drive now through Sunday. The drop-off box is at 27 Wyckoff St., Greenlawn. Needed items include peanut butter, jelly, pancake mix, syrup, macaroni and cheese, canned soup, juice, cold cereal and individually-wrapped snacks. For more information, email [email protected]. Toys of Hope is working to provide toys, books, clothing and other items to needy and homeless children and their families. The organization is at 167 E. 2nd St., Huntington Station.Helping Hand Rescue Mission, at 225 Broadway, Huntington Station, is hosting its Holiday Toy Drive and also seeking food for its pantry. The organization accepts donations 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday; or 10 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
