SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury is heeding the advice of the Secretary of the Commonwealth and upping its ballot drop box security.
The town has security cameras outside the Town Hall ballot drop box site and has them directed at the drop box. Westborough Town Clerk Sandy Wright said police officers have been instructed to make patrols when Town Hall is closed.
Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin's office urged towns on Monday to ensure added security for ballot boxes following the suspected arson of a Boston ballot box early Sunday. Among the suggestions was to empty and lock ballot boxes overnight on Halloween as officials worry about possible Halloween pranks targeting boxes.
In Shrewsbury, over 14,500 voters have requested mail-in ballots and over 3,000 voters have voted in person.
