Description
Someone posted the other day about how quick their drive home was because of how people were on the road. In the four years that I’ve lived here, I’ve noticed the roads vary day to day, thus, I’ve created a list for Portland drivers who seem a little confused on how to drive. I hope this helps!
1. It’s the skinny pedal. You use your right foot to push down on it when the light turns green, or you’re already in motion.
2. The speed limit on Grand and MLK is 30mph, not 20.
3. It is safer to go with the flow of traffic rather than holding it up.
4. You don’t have to let everyone in your lane, especially when there’s a lot of traffic. You’re just creating that traffic.
5. The cops won’t pull you over if you go 5 over the speed limit.
6. The point of a freeway on ramp is to match the speed of traffic in order to safely enter the highway. That said, you should be going 55mph by the time you’re switching lanes, not 35.
7. If you drive a Toyota Prius, you already have a reputation of being a shitty driver. Again, its the skinny pedal.
8. Your blinker is supposed to be used before you plan on turning, not when you’re already turning.
9. When more than one person reaches a stop sign at the same time, the person to the right gets to go first. Please stop waiting at stop signs and waving other cars through.
10. If you are going the speed limit or below on the freeway, you are only allowed to use the right lane.
11. You do not have to brake while going downhill on certain roads. On that note, it is better for your car to ease off the gas rather than always hitting your brakes. Also, you suck less when you’re not braking all the time.
12. When you are entering the Ross Island from SW and traffic is high, you do not need to treat the entrance like a four way stop. When traffic keeps flowing, those at the stop signs are able to go.
13. If any of these are confusing, please retake your test. You’re all a hazard.
14. Sell your Prius.
