SHREWSBURY, MA — Worcester County Grand Jury indicted Tony Sacco of Shrewsbury on Tuesday, in the May 2019 death of John Riordan, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr. Sacco was indicted on one count of involuntary manslaughter in the death of 58-year-old Riordan inside his Worcester home. Sacco and Riordan had been out drinking on the night of the incident and Sacco went back with Riordan to his apartment. According to the Worcester Telegram, Sacco said he saw items that belonged to him in Riordan's condo and believed Riordan took them. Sacco admitted to pulling Riordan off his bed and hitting him several times. Sacco returned the next morning to find Riordan unresponsive and called police. Initially, Sacco had been charged with aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He was held on $50,000 bail after his arraignment in Central District Court on May 28, 2019. This indictment moves Sacco's case to Worcester Superior Court where he will be arraigned on a future date.
