Join us for Norfolk's 3rd Annual Night of Philosophy and Ideas. This year's theme is "Where Are We Going/What's Next?" Join us for Norfolk's 3rd Annual Night of Philosophy and Ideas. This year's theme is "Where Are We Going/What's Next?" A cash bar and heavy hors d'oeuvres will be available throughout the program The schedule is as follows: Film (5:30-6) La Jetee. Chris Marker’s 1960s French masterpiece about love, Paris and time travel after a worldwide plague devastates the planet. Opening Remarks (6-6:10) Environmental Resiliency Panel “Resiliency...Overcoming Ecological Challenges and Disasters” (6:10-6:55) Panelists will explore coastal resilience and rebuilding at multiple scales but incorporate time scales (short-term/disaster recovery; medium-term; long-term) and geographic/community scales (home, neighborhood, locality, etc.) to give a comprehensive vision of what can and will be done in our area in the near and long term future. Chair- Dr. Jessica Whitehead, Joan P. Brock Endowed Executive Director Institute for Coastal Adaptation & Resilience (ICAR), Old Dominion University Panelists: Jessica Whitehead Mr. Matthew Simons, Coastal Resilience Program Manager, City of Norfolk Dr. Wie Yusuf, ICAR; School of Public Service, Old Dominion University Poetry (6:55-7:25) Kindra Greene Elizabeth River Trail Foundation. She will discuss what the ERT is doing to improve our city and she will also read from her own ecological poetry Workforce Development Panel “Preparing the Workers of Tomorrow, Today” (7:25-8:10) Chair- Adale Martin Kenyetta Goshen will talk about the NPS Career and Technical Education curricula in our schools. Dance (8:10-8:40) BeatHunter Dance, created by Joél Casanova, performs a piece about isolation and unity. We have all experienced the sting of isolation but unity makes us stronger.
