HICKSVILLE, NY – A person at Burns Avenue School has tested positive for COVID-19, but the school has been cleared to remain open by the Department of Health.
In a letter to families on Friday, Superintendent of Schools Marianne Litzman said the Hicksville Public School District was notified Friday that a person at the school has tested positive for the disease, which is caused by the coronavirus.
The Department of Health has completed contact tracing protocols and determined the school may remain open, Litzman said.
People determined to be "close contacts" have been identified and advised of what to do next.
"Please remain alert to symptoms of COVID-19," Litzman said in the letter. "It is important to remember that the health and safety protocols in place in all our buildings, including wearing masks, washing hands, social distancing, and daily disinfecting of facilities, are intentionally designed to mitigate the spread of COVID."
