HICKSVILLE, NY — Tropical Storm Isaias hit Long Island with wind gusts approaching 80 mph Tuesday, knocking down trees, branches and phone wires all over Hicksville. Close to a third of all PSEG Long Island customers lost power as a result of the storm. In Hicksville, nearly 4,400 residents lost electricity. PSEG's estimated restoration time for Hicksville residents still without power is Saturday around 11:00 p.m. Hicksville firefighters responded to more than 150 alarms during the storm Tuesday, mostly for trees fallen in roadways or on top of homes, in addition to wires down all over the community. Firefighters also helped a Hicksville family and their dog evacuate their home safely after a tree fell on it. Firefighters continued to respond to emergency calls throughout Tuesday evening.
