HICKSVILLE, NY — A Brooklyn woman has been arrested after police said they found the decomposing body of a dog in a locked cage inside a deplorable Hicksville apartment.
Police officers received a 911 call for a foul smell emanating from a Maple Place apartment, police said. Officers entered the basement apartment with the landlord and found the apartment was in a deplorable condition, police said. The dog's body was decomposing in a double-locked cage.
Authorities learned the dog's owner checked on the dog once after moving to Brooklyn in June, police said.
Tiffany Adorno, 29, was subsequently arrested and charged with torturing/injuring animals and abandonment of animals under agricultural and market law. She was scheduled to appear in Mineola court Saturday.
