Celebrate Mother’s Day with live drumming and movement that blends several dance disciplines.
African dance has included symbolic movement that tells a story, since its inception. Join MufukaWorks founder Elsie Mufuka in a special workshop that employs the Afro Russe (a fusion of Zimbabwean, ballet, and contemporary) style of dance to physically tell a story of the matriarch. These movements are meant to empower mothers and community members by expressing the strength and grace of the mother archetype.
Participants will learn and perform beginner-level movements based in African dance, accompanied by live drums. Although the workshop will cater to mothers, all ages and experience levels are welcome. Please be sure to wear comfortable clothing and shoes, and bring a closed-lid water bottle.
