La Mesa PD and La Mesa Public Works is determined to decrease catalytic converter theft through increased public awareness and partnerships. Catalytic converters are an important part of every vehicle exhaust system. They filter harmful vehicle exhaust using precious metals with a high black-market value. Catalytic converter theft is up over 300% nationwide, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB). La Mesa PD and La Mesa Public Works Department wants to help make you a hard target by engraving the vehicle identification number (VIN) on your catalytic converter. This simple act may deter theft and assist police in investigating thefts! Event participants will be given additional information upon registration. Space is limited! This is a closed event with only 50 sign-ups available for this free service... don't miss out! *You must bring proof of La Mesa residency and current vehicle registration to participate.
