About Ecstatic Dance: Ecstatic Dance is based on the ancient ritual and healing practices of sacred and conscious dance that date back to 30,000 years ago. Drug and alcohol free! It is a safe, welcoming space for families and those who think they “can’t dance”. Ecstatic Dance is a moving meditation with an explicit intention of contemplation or healing. It is a free-form movement practice with the simple invitation to “move however you wish”. It was brought back into our awareness in 2000 and has grown to communities across the world. People of all ages, types, and sizes gather together to dance, usually barefoot, in whatever way their spirit moves them. Sometimes together, often alone, respecting themselves and one another. Music is a core part of the ecstatic dance, with a mindfully created arc that carries the group through warming up, letting go, exploring and expressing, and into stillness. There is no one music style. To keep in touch, join the Ecstatic Dance Pittsburgh community on Facebook.
