Carol Long, Curator at Winterthur Garden, discusses aspects of plant curation, propagation, garden maintenance and sustainable horticulture. When it comes to garden design and maintenance, every site presents unique challenges. Join us for a special in-person lecture as Carol Long, Curator of the Garden at Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library in northern Delaware, discusses aspects of plant curation, propagation, garden maintenance and sustainable horticulture practices, through the lens of historical landscapes. Note: Masking is required inside the Welcome Center. Speaker Bio: A graduate of the University of Delaware, Carol Long is the Curator of the Garden at Winterthur where she has worked for 30 years. Carol began her career at Winterthur as a horticulturist caring for the March Bank and is now responsible for overseeing the design and management of the Winterthur Garden. Carol was the project manager and co-curator of Winterthur’s first outdoor exhibition, Follies: Architectural Whimsy in the Garden, 2018-2020. Carol is also very active in the horticultural community, having volunteered her time on several boards and committees throughout her career and helping to promote the field of public horticulture as a career for high school and college students. Carol received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Delaware College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in 2012. Carol is an avid gardener, experimenting with plants and horticultural techniques in her home landscape which she playfully calls “The Land of a Thousand Taxa”.
