SOMERVILLE, MA — The City of Somerville is seeking seven members for the Historic Preservation Commission, with applications open to all Somerville residents.
Each position has a three year term and six of the current openings are for candidates with specific expertise, including ne architectural historian, one contractor, one architect, one historian, and two Local Historic District residents or architects.
The Historic Preservation Commission is charged with protecting and enhancing historic resources in Somerville. The Commission reviews alterations or repairs to properties in a Local Historic District, administers the City's Demolition Review Ordinance, offers pro bono professional advice about historic preservation and restoration, and sponsors events and activities.
The Commission typically meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:45 p.m. These are volunteer positions. Applications will be reviewed by the Mayor's Appointments Advisory Committee and members must be approved by the City Council.
