Description

Join us at our 2nd Annual Justice for George Exhibition to commemorate the life and death of George Floyd. Memorialize the Movement’s (MTM) Justice for George exhibition is a community event that displays the protest murals from the Minneapolis uprisings of 2020, highlights Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) artists, speakers, and performers, and brings the community together to collectively heal, reflect, and learn. It is an event that requires collaboration, funding, manual labor, community partnerships, and many volunteers. The goals of this exhibition are to commemorate the life and death of George Floyd, address and process historical and current trauma specifically of BIPOC people in the community, create a space for healing and learning through art, and keep the protest plywood murals relevant in the public eye so they are not forgotten. Art has always been an important tool for sparking conversations around social movements. MTM aims to continue that tradition not only by challenging the people who come to see these murals, but by challenging the museum and conservation industries as well. At our event, attendees will find: A large art exhibition with painted plywood muralsPerformances and speakers from across the MN Twin Cities area Syracuse Stage's "Citizen James, or The Young Man Without a Country" by Kyle BassA resource fair and showcasing of BIPOC led organizations A healing and wellness station with a mental health counselorA youth painting workshop Local food trucksWe will exhibit 200 plywood mural panels, hire 12+ BIPOC artists to paint live murals on blank plywood panels, hire 4+ Black performers and speakers, partner with 10+ community organizations from the Twin Cities that offer resources to underprivileged communities, and create spaces and activities for our youth to make art, for our community to heal, and to celebrate the life of George Floyd.
