FARMINGDALE, NY — An assistant baseball coach at Farmingdale State College has been suspended for a year without pay after allegedly making racially charged comments against an opposing player at a game Saturday. Assistant coach Michael McCabe reportedly said "way to go brown boy" to St. Joseph's University sophomore Anthony Hernandez when he made it to third base during the game at Kingsborough Community College. News 12 obtained a copy of the video of the game, from people who were watching remotely as spectators were not allowed in the stadium. On Wednesday, Farmingdale State College issued a statement explaining that McCabe will be suspended without pay for one year and will be required to undergo counseling. "The comments that were made were most inappropriate and do not reflect the college's values," the statement said. Hernandez's brother told News 12 that he heard those words, and the family was "saddened" by the incident. Michael McCabe did not respond to Patch's request for comment.
