Here are the top three stories today in Buffalo: Niagara Square in Downtown Buffalo was closed to traffic Wednesday due to police activity. A Buffalo Police Department spokesperson asked motorists to find alternate routes to avoid the square, with traffic diverted away from the area. No injuries were reported in the square as of Wednesday night. After police cleared the scene, the square reopened at 9:00 p.m. Wednesday. This story continues to develop. (WKBW 7 News Buffalo)Erie County leaders recently announced the expansion of Project Blue. Project Blue, a program designed to help inmates newly released from prison, seeks to give people skills so when they return to the community, they can find a job and housing. The success of the pilot program, which received a $1 million grant in 2018, earned the program a second grant this year. (WIVB.com - News 4)A 19-year-old female from Niagara Falls was sentenced in connection to a fatal stabbing in 2020. On Thursday, Erie County Court sentenced the female to an indeterminate sentence of one-and-a-third to four years in prison. She was 17 years old at the time of the crime and pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree manslaughter on Jan. 5, 2022. The DA said she received the maximum sentence.
