Press release from Roanoke City Public Schools:
04/27/2022
In 2012, the White House invited Fishburn Park Elementary to the nation's capital to accept the honor and distinction of being named a Green Ribbon School, one of only a handful recognized throughout the country. In 2017, the school's focus was changed to STEAM to accommodate the ever-changing education realm, providing an umbrella to support hands-on learning related to science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.
Today, Fishburn Park Elementary enrolls approximately 300 students, around 30% of whom are accepted through the application process. The school is very proud of their tradition of excellence and look forward to building on that foundation with students, parents, and community members. • Greenhouse experience for all grade levels • Outdoor garden areas and learning labs • Emphasis on bringing the outside world into the classroom • Building and grounds features extensively used in instruction • Ten acres of land with an adjoining City Park Watershed • State of the art electronics, including a 3-D printer for students • Diversity: Multiple Disability Program housed at Fishburn Park • Access to Virginia Western Community College Arboretum • Playground made of recycled materials • Outdoor Amphitheater
