MCLEAN, VA — A juvenile driver has been charged in a three-vehicle McLean crash that killed one driver in March, according to Fairfax County Police.
The three-vehicle crash happened around 3 p.m. on March 9 in the 8800 block of Georgetown Pike. The driver who was charged was driving a 2020 Audi A5 west on Georgetown Pike, lost control of the vehicle, crossed the double yellow line and hit an eastbound 2005 Nissan Sentra and 1991 Toyota MR5, police say. The Audi spun into the path of the Toyota, causing it to rear-end the Toyota, according to police.
The Nissan driver was taken to the hospital and died of her injuries four days after the crash. She was identified as Karla Boggess, 62, of Berryville. The Audi driver was treated for injuries on scene, and the Toyota driver was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives' investigations found the juvenile driver of the Audi had been traveling above 80 mph in a 35 mph zone. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
On Tuesday, detectives served petitions charging the 16-year-old juvenile with involuntary manslaughter. The juvenile was taken to the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center.
The Major Crimes Bureau's Victim Services Division has assigned victim advocates to the victim's family.
