Here are the top five stories in New Orleans today: New Orleans has begun to see an uptick in COVID cases in recent weeks, though city officials aren't that concerned. NOLA Public Schools have seen an increase in positive tests, but not an increase in hospitalizations as a result of the infections. NOLA is averaging 50 new cases a day, but the New Orleans Health Department Director says it is expected not not cause for concern. (WWLTV.com)The suspect in the shooting death of a 3-year-old girl earlier this week has been arrested and connected to another homicide in September 2021 according to NOPD. The suspect is the victim's older brother who was immediately detained after her death. (WWLTV.com) Mayor La Toya Cantrell spoke out about the recent trend of disagreement between her administration and the City Council. In a letter directed at the council, she condemned their 'disturbing rhetoric' of continually blocking her proposals. The rising crime rates and slow construction projects have been a recent point of contention between the two governing forces, and this squabble could either make the situation better or worse.
