WATSONVILLE, CA — Pajaro Valley Unified School District Superintendent Michelle Rodriguez was named Superintendent of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators, Region 10, The Pajaronian reported. Rodriguez started with the district in 2016, according to the Pajaronian. Since then, she has implemented a number of programs, including Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words, and the Whole Child, Whole Family, Whole Community Initiative, which combines academics with socioemotional aspects. According to data from the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, the percentage of students meeting or increasing standards has jumped from 30.74% to 69.23% since Rodriguez joined the district. "It is a pleasure and privilege to be recognized by colleagues and partners who daily inspire me to do the work I do to support our learners every day," Rodriguez said in a news release. "It has always been clear to me that to positively impact the students under our educational care, it is critical to have active engagement of students, the support of staff and families and the collaboration of community partners."
