POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — Before hundreds of family members and friends, six Point Pleasant Beach seniors took to the high school to show off their singing and dancing talents. In the end, it was Ella Dafeldecker who reigned and was crowned Miss Point High 2022. The Miss Point High event is a tradition for the Garnet Gulls going back to the 1950s, said John Boland, the adviser for the Point Pleasant Beach High School student council. The event raises money to support Student Council scholarships, said Boland, who said Jill Tierney, the assistant adviser for the student council who organized and coordinated the event. The 2022 candidates for Miss Point High were Ella Dafeldecker, Emily Crowley, Sarah Homer, Tess McDougal, Caroline McGlinchy and Elisa Crivelli, and each had a song-and-dance routine with with a theme, Boland said. Tess McDougal's theme was "Queen," Ella Dafeldecker's was "Just Dance," Elisa Crivelli's theme was "Iconic 80s Movies," Sarah Homer's was "Ariana Grande," Emily Crowley was "Mamma Mia," and Caroline McGlinchy's set was themed "Taylor Swift." "Since the pandemic this is the first time in two years we were able to have Miss Point High, which is the main vehicle to funding our Student Council scholarships," he said. "Last year we awarded a little over $1,000 in scholarships but hope to offer almost double that amount this year with funds raised from ticket sales for Miss Point High." In addition to Ella Dafeldecker being crowned 2022 Miss Point High, Emily Crowley was named 2022 Miss Point High runner-up, and Sarah Homer was named Miss Congeniality. "It was a great night, lots of fun for the students," he said.
