SAN RAFAEL, CA — A Terra Linda High School teacher suspected of being intoxicated on the job was arrested Wednesday, police said. Teagen Leonhart, 46 of San Anselmo, was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and child endangerment and booked into Marin County Jail, police said. Officers at around 11:50 a.m. were dispatched to the school on the report of a teacher possibly being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said. Terra Linda officials contacted authorities after a school employee alerted an administrator that they believed a teacher was under the influence, police said. The administrator went to Leonhart's classroom and removed her from the class after witnessing signs of intoxication, police said. Leonhart admitted to consuming some alcohol that morning after an alcohol screening test showed she was more than three times the legal limit for driving a vehicle. An SRPD officer trained as a state certified Drug Recognition Expert was sent to the school to interview Leonhart determined that the teacher was under the influence of alcohol, a prescription drug, and cannabis, police said. Leonhart taught classes all morning and was responsible for the safety of 53 children, police said. "It was the opinion of the (Drug Recognition Expert) officer that due to her intoxication level, Leonhart was unable to care for the safety of the children while they were in her classroom," police said in a statement.
