Press release from Horry Georgetown Technical College: April 15, 2022 Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is proud to announce the HGTC Cybersecurity Team secured one of the top honors at the Palmetto Cyber Defense Competition (PCDC) held in North Charleston, SC April 9-10, 2022. HGTC received 6th Place overall while competing against nine (9) other colleges including Charleston Southern University, Clemson University, College of Charleston, The Citadel, ECPI University, Trident Technical College, the United States Naval Academy, the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, and the University of South Carolina. The team also beat Trident Technical College to win the 2022 Palmetto Cyber Defense Tech School Challenge Cup. "I am extremely proud of our results this year as our students performed brilliantly and represented HGTC at the highest level. Our accomplishments are remarkable considering we compete every year against some of the top four-year programs in the nation," said Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore, HGTC President. In addition to the overall awards, HGTC won 3rd Place in the Injects Category. HGTC Team Members include: Cihan BulutJoseph HoronzyHope Goodwin, Team CaptainRaven LewisBrandon PanepintoJames ShaughnessyNoah Turner The Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic, the Navy's East Coast Engineering Center, in collaboration with the South Carolina Lowcountry Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association facilitates a cyber defense competition each spring. PCDC is an event for the promotion of Cybersecurity education and awareness. Competition energizes colleges to develop invigorating and focused curriculum for the technical skills needed in today's fast-paced and challenging cyber environment. Joseph Horonzy and James Shaughnessy were offered the opportunity to apply for job openings with NIWC. Only thirteen (13) students out of sixty (60) were offered this opportunity from NIWC.
