DARIEN, IL – A Darien man with two warrants for his arrest was not sent to jail last week after local officers took him into custody. The warrants for Pablo Perez, 32, indicated he had failed to appear in court. Late Friday afternoon, officers were called to the 7400 block of Brookdale Drive for a violation of an order of protection, according to a police report. When they got there, the suspect was gone. The suspect, identified as Perez, was found in the victim's car in the 800 block of Plainfield Road, police said. On Darien Patch's Facebook page, a reader expressed unhappiness with Darien police for releasing a suspect who twice failed to show up in court. Patch contacted Deputy Police Chief Jason Norton about why Perez did not go to jail. Norton said the bond was set by the judge and that Perez had the ability to post bond on both warrants. "There are several factors that go into setting bond – the severity of the crime one is accused of committing, the criminal history of the accused, flight risk, the risk to society, etc," Norton said in an email. "I cannot speak to this particular case, as I was not present when bond was set." He said it appeared as if the underlying charges to the failure-to-appear warrants were traffic offenses. In the suburbs, it is not unusual for suspects with multiple warrants to post bond and be released.
