Press release from the Inver Grove Heights Schools:
April 28, 2022
Simley Theatre performs the musical comedy, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," in the Simley High School Performing Arts Center Thursday, April 28, through Sunday, May 1.
The show centers on the funny, emotional experiences of six tweens competing against each other in a spelling bee.
More than 20 students from Simley High School and Inver Grove Heights Middle School worked together as cast and technical crew to produce the play. In addition to the 13 cast members performing on stage, there are even more students in the crew working on lighting, sound, props, costumes, and more.
"To make good theater, we require closeness, vulnerability, exertion, sometimes even blood, sweat, and tears," wrote Simley Theater Director Bill Skar in his program notes for this production. "It is just so great to be moving back to normalcy and see these kids singing, dancing, and acting their hearts out."
Given the mature themes, the show is recommended for children 13 and older.
Performances are scheduled for:
Thursday, April 28, at 7:00 PM Friday, April 29, at 7:00 PM Saturday, April 30, at 7:00 PM (ASL interpreted) Sunday, May 1, at 2:00 PM Tickets are $12 each for adults, $6 each for children and students and can be purchased online at www.simleytheatre.org.
