Description
ISLANDIA, NY — What Suffolk Police said was a diamond theft actually turned out to be an act of kindness, as the man wanted for questioning took the gemstones to turn them into police.
A bag containing roughly $25,000 worth of diamonds was taken from a shopping cart outside Walmart at 1850 Veterans Memorial Highway around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, police said. Police originally wanted the man for questioning in connection to what was called a grand larceny. However, police said there will be no charges made, as the man who found the diamonds brought them into the police department Monday morning.
The man who found the diamonds attempted to turn them into Walmart, but due to the man's language barrier, police said he didn't feel comfortable leaving the gems with people who couldn't understand him. The man took the diamonds with him, and with the help of an English-speaking family member, turned them into police.
